In the last 10 years, the therapy field has become increasingly aware of the nonpsychological elements involved in treating depression. But there's still a hurdle most clinicians have to cross—figuring out how to move beyond talk therapy to incorporate these other elements into their work. In this workshop, you'll learn and experience a wide range of mind-body methods, including several kinds of meditation, exercise, dance, nutrition, and work with drawings and dialogue, and explore how to integrate them into your practice when treating depression. We'll examine the latest evidence about antidepressants, how to bring spiritual issues into depression treatment, and how to increase your effectiveness and prevent burnout by using these mind-body techniques yourself. You'll leave with a new perspective on depression: not as a disease, but as the beginning of a journey for both your clients and yourself. (This session continues with Workshop 327.)
