Trauma impacts the brain before overtaking the mind, and optimal treatment of trauma has to reach both. Neurofeedback—biofeedback to the brain—is an important new approach that can teach people to change the repetitive neuronal firing patterns that manifest as symptoms in PTSD, reactive attachment disorder, and personality disorders. When they learn how to do this, they quiet their fear. This workshop will guide you through the brain's circuitry of fear—"the ring of fire"—and explain the science behind neurofeedback in laymen's terms. Case vignettes and videos will illustrate how neurofeedback is used and provide you with a glimpse into its potential, particularly when integrated into the therapeutic relationship.
