Many adolescent girls are trapped in rage and despair. Some try to disappear through starvation, while others hide weeping in their rooms, bully other girls, or carve indecipherable symbols into their arms. How can therapists make a difference with these highly volatile clients? This practical workshop will explore 10 vital principles of effective intervention with young women in crisis. We'll discuss what questions to ask troubled girls and how to rally support for them from their families and relationship networks. You'll find out about concrete strategies that work, including harm reduction, inviting resistance, and developing a protective circle of adults. You'll learn how to effectively intervene in two of the most vexing problems faced by therapists working with adolescent girls: self-harm and social aggression. You'll leave the workshop knowing what it takes to stay connected to these struggling teens as you help them become competent, interdependent young women.
