Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2008 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 13-16, 2008
Like walking a tight rope, working with couples in trouble requires focus and balance. Both partners want you to take their side, and, at times, it's easy to get swallowed up by the intense emotionality of the sessions. So, how can you maintain a sense of balance and create an atmosphere in which healing can take place? In this workshop, you'll learn how to use the principles of Imago Relationship Therapy to connect with the issues the couple brings to you and transform the emotional temperature of the session. You'll gain skills using tools such as mirroring and validation, with a special emphasis on all the subtle nonverbal shifts you can make through body language, sentence structure, and tone of voice to create safety and new possibility in troubled relationships. We'll touch on the insights from interpersonal neurobiology and mindfulness practice as they relate to couples therapy.
