Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2008 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 13-16, 2008
Therapists and clients alike are immersed in a culture of disconnection, isolation, and self-absorption. Communities and families are fractured; individuals are focused on getting what they want when they want it. Too often, clients leave therapy with a better understanding of themselves and their needs, but lacking an ability to connect with others. A holistic, mind-body-heart model for therapy is needed to develop deep connections with oneself and the world. This workshop offers a simple but powerful model for working with clients through "heart language" that quickly opens them up to their own kindness and compassion, and to their desire for connection. Through didactic presentation and exercises, you'll learn how to integrate this holistic model in your practice and how to apply it to specific issues, including trauma, depression, and relational conflicts. You'll learn breathing exercises and imagery skills to augment your clinical work. Besides learning how to open the hearts of your clients, you'll discover how to be more openhearted yourself.
