Session #: 717-609
Presenter(s): Nancy Napier, L.M.F.T.
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
The healing therapeutic encounter demands the therapist's full, centered presence--the capacity for calm, yet energized moment-to-moment attunement and engagement with the client. The ability to resonate with the client rests on the therapist's ability to self-soothe in the face of the client's sometimes overwhelming emotions. This inner quiet and sense of deep attunement allows the client to feel safely held, as well as fully heard and seen. In this workshop, containing both didactic and experiential elements, you'll explore your capacity as a therapist for self-regulation, containment, and resonance with clients. Drawing on elements of Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness practices, HeartMath, and guided imagery, you'll have the opportunity to develop your ability to remain centered in the face of your clients' activation, to recognize your own body-based activation signals, and to expand your capacity for healing presence.
