Session #: 717-607
Presenter(s): Harry Aponte, L.M.F.T.
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
We all know the importance of the therapist's self--his or her own emotional reactions and personal experience--to the therapeutic relationship. But exactly how should we bring that self into sessions? This workshop presents a powerful model for using the therapist's personal life experience, cultural background, and spirituality in clinical encounters. You'll learn to recognize what triggers your own reactivity, free yourself from the struggle and shame around your personal issues, and gain the confidence to use more of yourself to resonate with your client in the moment. By the end of the workshop, you'll have a deeper sense of how central your personal themes are to your therapy and a practical checklist for working with them productively.
