Session #: 717-513
Presenter(s): Joan Klagsbrun, Ph.D.
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
Chronic, serious, or life-threatening illness can wreak havoc in our clients' lives, spawning fear, helplessness, and anger in them and their families. In this workshop, you'll learn Focusing, a gentle mind-body technique, to help clients listen to what their bodies are telling them, gain a greater sense of calm equilibrium, and discover healthier ways of dealing with their illness. You'll try out the "Clearing a Space" exercise, which teaches clients to tune in to sensations throughout the body and check any associations with disturbing memories, thoughts or feelings--resulting in a more relaxed and centered state of mind. You'll also learn how to use Focusing to help clients achieve more clarity about what the body is telling them, which can often help them make difficult medical decisions. By the end of the session you'll have a far clearer road map for helping clients cope with the emotional and physical challenges of serious illness.
