Session #: 717-512
Presenter(s): Douglas Flemons, Ph.D.
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
When athletes, lovers, and public performers are "in the zone," they experience the exhilaration of flow--an effortless mind-body engagement in their activity that dissolves self-consciousness, alters the perception of time, and inspires a sense of joyful oneness with the world. But such flow experiences come to a screeching halt whenever performance anxiety sets in, and effortful strategies to overcome it tend to make matters worse. In this experiential workshop, you'll discover firsthand why "try and relax" is a three-word oxymoron, and you'll be introduced to simple hypnotic techniques that you and your clients can use to bypass the "trying-too-hard" syndrome. You'll leave knowing a two-step hypnotic procedure for inviting the rhythmic, body-infused awareness characteristic of flow, and you'll understand how clients can use this awareness to process and dissipate the symptoms of performance anxiety.
