Session #: 717-424
Presenter(s): Steve Andreas, M.A.
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
Pioneering Family Therapist Virginia Satir is regarded as one of the most effective clinicians who ever lived. Although she was a deeply intuitive therapist, her work nonetheless rests on easily learned structural patterns that you can incorporate into any practice. In this workshop, video excerpts, experiential exercises, and discussion will enable you to experience Satir's power and explore her use of expressiveness, reframing, humor, hypnotic language, presuppositions, and role-play in sessions. You'll see how she transformed clients through positive intent, physical contact, and action. You'll leave with lessons from Satir that you can apply in your own practice to interrupt destructive thinking and behavior, offer alternative positive behavioral choices, and rigorously test changes clients make in session to ensure they'll occur in their daily lives. (This session will continue with Workshop 524.)
