Session #: 717-401
Presenter(s): Daniel Siegel, M.D.
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
The new science of Social Neurobiology is showing us that our individual neural wiring is shaped profoundly by human connection, and that our brains function in irreducibly social ways. In this session, two of the field's foremost writers and teachers in the field of neuroscience and psychology will explore the therapeutic implications of the social brain. They'll discuss how our inherent neurobiological make-up determines our uniquely human capacity for empathy, intimacy, mutual understanding, and "mindsight"--the ability to intuit what other people feel and think. They'll also discuss how this new area of neuroscience will shape the future of psychotherapy, what it reveals about human nature, and how therapists can convert some of these insights into practical interventions with their clients.
