What do you do when a therapy relationship meanders and devolves into the chat of the week? This workshop will give you a toolkit of cognitive-behavioral methods you can use to give structure and direction to therapy whenever the clinical focus becomes unclear. By using the acronym Care--Cognitions, Action, Relaxation, and Emotional Expression--you'll develop an organizing framework for determining when you need to examine the client's underlying beliefs, consider what she's doing too much or too little of, focus on bodily awareness, or explore what's being said or not said. It's a way to develop a sense of clinical mindfulness that'll make you a more effective and grounded therapist, irrespective of your orientation. You'll leave with a simple road map for determining when attending to thinking, feeling, or action offers the most productive means for getting treatment back on course.
