As Carol Gilligan, Mary Pipher, and others have shown, early adolescence is a pivotal time in the lives of young girls during which they often feel unseen and unheard. When they lose their voices in this manner, the likelihood of self-inflicted violence, eating disorders, and substance abuse rises substantially, as well as the possibility of getting involved in abusive relationships. This workshop will present a range of gender-specific treatment strategies to help young girls develop a positive sense of self, build healthy relationships, and acquire effective coping skills. You'll learn how to use interactive exercises, cognitive-behavioral techniques, art and movement, and guided imagery to guide them toward self-expression.
