Session #: 717-301
Presenter(s): Dick Schwartz
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
Everybody has experienced negative "mind chatter"--thoughts about the past and worries about the future--and chronic physical stress symptoms like upset stomach, headache, and stiff neck. In this workshop, we'll explore the new hypothesis that many of these intrusive and chronic thoughts and feelings are actually symptoms of past traumas, both the intense kind that causes PTSD and the many ordinary traumas that afflict. You'll learn how these traumatic past events are stored as unconscious procedural and emotional memories in our bodies that can't be resolved by talk alone, requiring instead an integrated, somatic-based therapeutic approach. Among the methods that'll be discussed are somatic experiencing, emotionally focused therapy, EMDR, TFT, and ritual. You'll leave knowing how to help clients empower themselves and get a sense of perspective on past traumas.
