Yoga isn't only a natural mood elevator, it also improves cognitive functioning and helps people focus. A few simple yoga techniques can help depressed clients calm the feelings of anxiety that often accompany depression, become less reactive, and cultivate an inner "witness state" that helps them gain some perspective on their emotions. In addition to consideration of the Yogic principles, philosophy and practices that make the daily practice of yoga beneficial in maintaining a balanced mood, we will explore the therapeutic benefits of yoga for trauma survivors. Experience for yourself the shift in your outlook as we practice a few simple exercises that can change your life and enhance the effectiveness of therapy, particularly with clients who aren't responding well to medications or who've received only partial relief from cognitive approaches.
