Session #: 717-215
Presenter(s): Ramon Rojano, M.D., M.F.T., M.P.H.
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2007 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 15-18, 2007
Once upon a time, the federal government funded community mental health programs. Those days are ending. To plot a happy and effective career path in public service today, therapists must understand and negotiate changing patterns of public and private funding. This workshop will delineate new sources of government and foundation money and describe new arenas in which therapists can find a home--hospitals, public health programs, chronic illness care, school-based mental health, marriage education, and other programs. You'll come away from this workshop with a conceptual map of a new funding universe, a list of strange new job titles like "patient navigator," and plenty of ideas of how to adapt, thrive, and do the work you love in a changing public service world.
