Our older clients (65+), who often feel helpless and lost as they confront the inevitable changes brought about by aging, require specific therapeutic knowledge and techniques not offered in most training centers. In this workshop, we'll explore a therapeutic approach called Positive Aging, which helps older clients anywhere along the continuum of health access and draw upon their inherent capacity for happiness and well-being. You'll learn specific ways to overcome the five primary blocks to positive aging--worry, rigidity, regret, negativity, and self-absorption. We'll talk about assessment tools for identifying the client's capacities for coping with age-related disabilities and other features of the aging process. You'll leave understanding the importance of gratitude and forgiveness for aging well and knowing how to use life-span interventions that emphasize life's meaning to transform problems into opportunities for growth and happiness.
