You may have some terrific interventions for depression, but they won't get a chance to work if your depressed client doesn't have enough emotional or physical energy to respond. In this workshop, we'll explore a variety of approaches to energize clients who are immobilized by depression. They include helping them recall physical sensations during times of greater energy, encouraging them to remember specific smells or sounds associated with happier times, using props therapeutic like chairs or plastic cups of water to increase focus and the impact of ideas, teaching them to stop negative self-talk, and counseling them about depression-lifting nutritional strategies. You'll also learn how you can create a therapeutic alliance with these clients' healthier selves while avoiding the danger of getting infected by their depression.
