Thousands of Iraq War vets are returning home with traumatic psychological and physical effects of combat. Although it's well accepted that early treatment is the best way to avoid severe, long-term consequences, many veterans haven't received treatment because of stigma and other barriers to care. In this workshop, a panel of trauma experts will discuss the particular experiences of these vets, the unusual circumstances of combat stress in Iraq, the wide spectrum of mental health problems among these vets, how to work with military veterans to keep them from developing PTSD, and how to incorporate newer, nonverbal, somatic-based trauma therapies into more standard PTSD approaches.
