Session #: 726-605
Presenter(s): Christopher Germer
Session Length: 4:00 hr. Event: 2006 Networker Symposium Date: October 19-22, 2006
A decade ago, if therapists were
familiar with mindfulness at all, it was
as a spiritual practice with little
connection to their clinical
work. Today the
therapeutic benefits of
mindfulness are widely
accepted and have been
repeatedly documented by
researchers. This workshop will offer
an overview of the most clinically
useful features of the mindfulnessbased
therapeutic models developed by
Marsha Linehan, Stephen Hayes,
Zindel Segal, and Jon Kabat-Zinn.
You'll discover how to customize
mindfulness interventions to fit
individual clients and their distinctive
clinical needs, with a special emphasis
on the cultivation of self-compassion.
Through experiential exercises, you'll
learn how to bring more mindfulness
and presence to the day-to-day,
moment-to-moment conduct of your
practice. We'll use role-play to explore
the common pitfalls therapists
encounter when trying to incorporate
mindfulness practice into their work.
