Session #: 726-505
Presenter(s): Frank Pittman
Session Length: 2:00 hr. Event: 2006 Networker Symposium Date: October 19-22, 2006
While most therapists recognize
that our theoretical orientation shapes
our work, many of us forget a larger
truth: that the kind of therapy we do is
also the product of where we are in our
own life cycle. Not only do we do
things differently as a result of getting
married, having children and
grandchildren, and going through the
aging process, but our clients react to
us differently as the years pass. This
workshop will offer you a deeper
awareness of how to
harvest the wisdom of
your own journey through
the life cycle. Together
we'll explore how we
present ourselves
differently to clients as we mature and
age and what effect that has, how our
increasing store of personal life
experience impacts our work, and how
to best pass along the lessons we learn
from our clients to others we see. We'll
pay special attention to the role of
storytelling in the therapeutic process,
using film clips for examples.
