Session #: 726-411
Presenter(s): Esther Perel
Session Length: 2:00 hr. Event: 2006 Networker Symposium Date: October 19-22, 2006
For many
committed couples, sex often means
"mating in captivity." This workshop
will probe the intricacies
of love and desire—how
they relate and how they
conflict. Participants will
learn how emotional
intimacy can inhibit sexual
desire and why "good intimacy" doesn't
necessarily make for "good sex." We'll
consider the link between a couple's
sexual passion and their tolerance for mutual uncertainty, and discuss
common blocks to eroticism, including
fear of entrapment, lack of breathing
distance, and pleasure-killing guilt and
worry. You'll learn how to create an
atmosphere free of judgment about
what couples want, how to help
partners find a shared language in
which they can voice their erotic
longing, and how to actively coach
partners to move beyond their familiar
comfort zone into an expansive, fully
charged sexuality. (This workshop will
continue in Workshop 511.)
