Session #: 726-408
Presenter(s): Susan Johnson
Session Length: 2:00 hr. Event: 2006 Networker Symposium Date: October 19-22, 2006
Couples therapy is
notoriously difficult, leading some
clinicians to avoid it altogether. But
what if there were a
systematized, step-by-step
approach that not only
produced powerful
therapeutic moments in
your office, but also
yielded empirically validated results?
This two-part workshop offers an
introduction to Emotionally Focused
Couples Therapy, a proven approach
founded in the principles of
attachment theory. You'll learn how to
interrupt a couple's negative cycles,
help them move from withdrawal to
reengagement, and then incorporate
the changes they've experienced in
therapy into their daily lives to stay
deeply connected with each other.
You'll gain skills in staying with the
couple's moment-to-moment
emotional experience and facilitating
the bonding events that can lead to the
transformation of a relationship. By
the end of the workshop, you'll
understand why effective couples work
needn't seem like such a mysterious
therapeutic art.
