Session #: 726-406
Presenter(s): Daniel Wile
Session Length: 2:00 hr. Event: 2006 Networker Symposium Date: October 19-22, 2006
Couples therapists are
constantly confronted with angry
partners who can't seem to stop
arguing. As we all know, the
therapeutic instinct is to stop the fight,
but the problem with this is that the
partners already feel unheard, which is
why they interrupt, repeat, and talk
over each other. In this workshop,
you'll learn how to use couples' fights
more productively to reveal what's vital
in the underlying conversation hidden
in the anger. You'll gain skill at helping
couples translate defensive statements
that perpetuate conflict
into heartfelt ones that can
lead to change. By the end
of this workshop, you'll
learn to recognize couples'
fights as offering a useful
path to intimacy and fast relationship
solutions.
