Adolescents with attachmenttrauma problems are among the most manipulative, defiant, anxious, terrified, and needy kids we treat. Lacking a fundamental sense of trust and belonging, they still must figure out how to function independently. But how can they separate when they're so poorly connected in the first place? In this workshop, participants will learn to recognize and diagnose attachmenttrauma problems in adolescents who typically present with a broad array of other difficulties. You'll discover how to make sense of the struggles these adolescents have with executive functioning, empathy, control, anxiety, conscience, and emotional and physical self-regulation. We'll discuss 30 ways to reach and help them, including unmasking their agendas, devising joyful consequences, finding triggers, and being consistent and unpredictable. We'll also consider how to develop a circle of caring adults to support these teens and lead them into adulthood.
