Session #: 726-210
Presenter(s): Deany Luliotis
Session Length: 2:00 hr. Event: 2006 Networker Symposium Date: October 19-22, 2006
The human
nervous system is designed to be finely
attuned to danger and to recognize
safety. But when people
have experienced trauma,
their nervous systems can
become stuck in the "on"
position, constantly
responding to threats that
no longer exist. Research and
experience show that the left brain
alone can't reregulate the amygdala
through words, reason, or logic. This
experiential workshop will demonstrate
Somatic Experiencing, a powerful
method for working with traumatized
clients grounded in the understanding
that the body is hard wired to heal.
Participants will learn specific tools for
reading clients' psychological cues and
freeing them from helplessness,
overstimulation, and collapse. You'll
leave the workshop knowing more
about how to help clients complete
their natural response to threat and
how to guide them into engaging their
body's normal relaxation response to
rebalance their physiology.
