Session #: 726-204

Session Length: 2:00 hr. Event: 2006 Networker Symposium Date: October 19-22, 2006
Although many psychological theories emphasize the importance of autonomy and psychological selfsufficiency, attachment theory teaches us that the basis of intimate relationships must include a healthy dependency. In this workshop, we?ll explore the role of attachment in couples therapy, and the ways in which the couple?s present relationship provides the opportunities to heal their attachment wounds from the past. You?ll learn how to listen through the content of what the couple says to how they present their issues to each other, assisting them to face their problems in the moment. We?ll explore ways to help couples tolerate their emotions and learn to think and feel at the same time. You?ll leave with a new repertoire of skills for helping partners understand and respond more directly to each other?s needs.
