604 PART 1 In our litigious age, more and more clinical decisions are based on fear of lawsuits and dread of board investigations. Too often we've replaced clinical judgment and integrity with attorneys' and ethicists' risk-management advice. As a result, we're in danger of losing our ability to care for clients with heart and soul. This workshop will demonstrate how we can practice safely, fearlessly, competently, and with clinical integrity by being informed and, above all, caring. Participants will learn how to make sound ethical decisions based on law, ethical guidelines, critical thinking, and clinical-research findings. We'll learn how to employ appropriate boundary crossing (such as touch, gifts, bartering, and home visits) and how to recognize and deal with unavoidable or helpful dual relationships. Additionally, we'll be educated about the general effect of HIPAA regulations in the field of therapy and the ethical complexities resulting from such features of electronic era as the Internet, e-mail, and e-therapy.
