505 Our ability to motivate, inspire, and create change in others, is severely tested when we try to mobilize depressed clients. In these cases, the challenge for therapists is to avoid becoming demoralized themselves by the depressed client's despair. This experiential workshop will present a unique approach to working with depression that energizes clients and therapist. The presenter will explain how to help clients to differentiate themselves from their inner voices of hopelessness and inadequacy, find the positive intent behind self-condemning beliefs, and develop self-compassion. Participants will learn how to be effective cheerleaders for their depressed clients by using humor and props to energize the therapeutic process. We'll also explore techniques for applying these skills to addictions, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
