426 Part 1 - Increasingly, many of us seem to live in a compartmentalized world, with fewer and fewer opportunities for contact with people from different cultural traditions and ethnic backgrounds. This full-day workshop will teach participants new techniques for heightening their awareness of ethnicity and race in their own lives and for working more effectively with clients whose backgrounds and traditions differ from theirs. Using the Cultural Genogram, participants will explore the multigenerational transmission of values in their own families of origin and learn how to use this therapeutic tool with clients. The presenters will show videos of crosscultural interviews that demonstrate how to create a safe space for cultural and racial exploration. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice conducting their own crosscultural interviews during the workshop. (This session will continue in Workshop 526.)
