418 Therapists often throw up their hands about how to treat such seemingly intractable and life-threatening conditions as anorexia and bulimia. But who knows what works better than clients who've recovered from anorexia? This workshop will feature videos of interviews with former anorexics answering questions like "What went wrong when treatment didn't work?" and "What helped to liberate you from anorexia?" The presenter will discuss his use of antianorexia leagues to create the community support clients need to challenge the culture's insidious quest for physical perfection. We'll also explore an interview method that helps clients move past a destructive identity dominated by hyperattention to physical appearance and thinness.
