318 In the face of the array of treatment choices for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), some mutually exclusive, how can a therapist know what's the best approach for a particular client? Should she choose one and stick with it? Should he dabble? The possibilities are endless. This experiential workshop will present a highly practical integration of existing methods that differentiates immediate symptom control from more long-term psychological treatment. We'll examine how to evaluate when medications are useful and when they interfere with therapy. We'll review the cognitive styles and common cognitive errors in anxious patients and discuss 10 reliable mind-body treatment approaches, including breathing techniques, anger reduction methods, and awareness-control procedures.
