311 Too often in therapy, some of the core concerns of black women are overlooked, even by therapists who think of themselves as feminists and multiculturalists. This workshop will examine how to address challenging issues that might otherwise be ignored in work with black women. These include class tensions within the black community, the intense protectiveness black mothers feel for their sons, struggles with the dominant white society's ideals of physical beauty, and black women's fears that their success and competence threaten black men. Participants will learn how to enhance the impact and depth of their work with black women by addressing these issues directly.
