517 Most adolescents who come to therapy for self-harming issues feel emotionally disconnected from and invalidated by their families and peers. This workshop will present a strength-based family treatment approach that focuses on each client's unique reasons for self-harming?whether to feel emotionally alive, to self-medicate, or to impress a peer group. Participants will learn how to catalyze emotional connection, target appropriate interventions on multiple systems levels, and teach techniques for self-soothing and coping. We'll place special emphasis on exploring the therapist's use of self.
