415 More than a third of the adults in the U.S. complain of sleeping so poorly it affects their ability to function in life. Yet many therapists feel helpless to deal with a client's insomnia (or their own). If you want to learn how to diagnose and treat insomnia, this workshop is for you. Research has demonstrated that behavioral treatment is as effective, or more effective, than medication for the treatment of insomnia. The presenter will describe a 10-session, evidenced-based treatment model for use with individuals or small groups suffering from insomnia. We'll work with assessment tools, including the sleep diary, to determine when sleeplessness needs to be treated. We'll also explore the four components of behavioral treatment, including cognitive restructuring and relaxation training, and discuss specialized treatments for children and seniors.
