Session #: 715-410
Presenter(s): Froma Walsh
Session Length: 2hr. 00 min. Event: 2005 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 17-20, 2005
410 The traumatic loss of a loved one can shatter lives and relationships, fueling depression, substance abuse, self-destructive behavior, physical or sexual abuse, and divorce. Yet studies of resilience show that the struggle to heal often yields unexpected personal and relational transformation. This workshop draws on clinical and research advances to demonstrate a framework for identifying and facilitating resilience in the face of loss. Through video and case illustrations, the presenter will explore the traumatic experience of sudden, violent, ambiguous, and untimely losses (such as the death of a child), and offer practical guidelines therapists can use to foster meaning-making, healing, and transcendence.
