402 We so often pay lip service to empathy as the most basic of the therapist's tools that we may lose sight of what a rare and extraordinary gift truly visiting another person's world happens to be?a step some insist is possibly the greatest human achievement. In fact, even the term empathy is a recent coinage, barely a hundred years old. In this experiential session, participants will get to experience for themselves the difference between true empathy, based on intense curiosity and the ability to put aside one's own needs and projections, and such related states as validation, or mirroring, or "feeling for" another. Using the Imago dialogue process, you'll experience the journey into otherness that's the essence of empathy and learn to enhance the quality of the I? Thou connection in your own therapeutic work.
