312 Therapists often encourage clients to imagine new behaviors that are outside their habitual patterns, but are puzzled when the clients fail to put them into practice. This experiential workshop will demonstrate an intervention called the Displacement Scene, which allows the client to rehearse dramatically new behaviors and emotions, and experience new outcomes. We'll learn how to help clients step outside their comfort zone to expand their repertoire through role plays, role rehearsals, even fully staged fictional scenes. Through exercises and discussion, we'll explore how to assess the readiness of the client for the Displacement Scene; determine the most effective degree of complexity and ambiguity of the scene; decide the sequence of steps leading to the scene; and initiate and guide the scene.
