308 Most therapists, gay and straight alike, assume that their awareness of homophobia and heterosexist attitudes ensures they'll do no harm. But it's not enough to be a gay-friendly therapist, even if you're gay or lesbian. Without being armed with specific training, gay and straight therapists are at a disadvantage, and can unintentionally harm their clients. This workshop will explore such clinical issues as transference, stages of coming out, family and relationship dynamics, and the connection between sexuality and shame. Via discussion, guided imagery, and case examples, you'll learn specific interventions and assessment tools that promote gay-affirmative therapy.
