Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2010 Psychotherapy Networker Symposium Date: March 25-28, 2010
Playback session - audio sample Ever discover yourself not really listening to a client? Ever find yourself getting caught in self-defeating patterns in sessions? In this workshop, you'll learn how to develop a richer understanding of your clients and a more openhearted and deeply present way of engaging them using the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Through the day you'll learn the six fundamental processes or qualities of attention defined by ACT: purposeful focus in the present moment; witnessing and accepting even unacceptable thoughts; recognizing without fusing or being limited by the story; bringing a sense of meta-consciousness to your self-awareness; recognizing the deepest values you hold and wish to live by; and reorienting yourself toward the values that mean the most. You'll leave knowing how to create a greater vitality within the therapeutic encounter (This session will continue with Workshop 304.)
