Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2008 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 13-16, 2008
We know that mediation can avoid the lengthy, expensive legal battles and lacerating emotional costs of adversarial divorces. But it's less known that a new paradigm of mediation can promote closure and healing as a marriage ends. While not therapy, this is an approach that's tailor-made for therapists, bringing to bear all the theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, and sensitivity at their disposal. In this workshop, using a videotaped mediation, we'll revisit the longstanding distinction between therapy and mediation, and provide a sense of what a divorce mediation session looks and feels like to help you decide whether this might be a satisfying area of practice for you. As time permits, you'll learn how to gain access to training and resources in this field, how to start a mediation practice, and how to market it effectively to professionals and the general public.
