As we all know, therapists' relationships are probably no more immune to decline than anybody else's. So what keeps love and intimacy alive year after year? This workshop offers you the wisdom about love and connection gained from 25 years of empirical research and clinical practice in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), an attachment-based approach. We'll first discuss romantic love as the natural arena for personal health, resilience, and growth, and how we can consciously use emotion to transform relationships. Then we'll outline and guide you through four conversation-oriented strategies to enhance your relationship: recognizing demon dialogues, finding raw spots, reaching and engaging or the "hold me tight" conversation, and forgiving injuries. Finally, we'll sum up the attachment-theory perspective on love and provide a number of specific suggestions for strengthening your love bond.
