As the science of longevity succeeds in helping us live longer, our older clients (65+) require therapeutic knowledge and techniques not offered in most training centers. Therapists need special skills to help clients learn to find well-being and happiness in old age. In this workshop, we'll explore a therapeutic approach called Positive Aging, which helps older clients anywhere along the continuum of health access and draw on their inherent capacity for happiness. You'll learn how to overcome the blocks to positive aging—worry, rigidity, regret, negativity, and self-absorption. You'll gain assessment tools for identifying clients' skills for coping with different aspects of the aging process. You'll explore 7 concrete strategies you can teach your clients to help them find fulfillment in later years, even in the midst of difficulties and challenges. You'll practice using these strategies in regard to specific late-life concerns common to your older clients. By the time you leave, you'll have the tools to help clients transform aging problems into opportunities.
