Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), pioneered by Steve De Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg, shattered all psychotherapy conventions when it burst on the scene during the 1980s. Pragmatic, future-oriented, goal-directed, strength-based, with roots in Milton Erickson's work, Buddhism, and Ludwig Wittgenstein's language of philosophy, SFBT developed an egalitarian, optimistic way of working with people that mobilized their strength, self-reliance, and inherent knowledge of what they needed and wanted. In this workshop, the presenter will offer an in-depth overview of the latest developments in SFBT, including innovative methods for tapping into clients' resources and more efficiently discovering solutions that transform the problems they bring to us. Through video demonstrations and experiential exercises, participants will learn the latest linguistic subtleties and communication nuances that can make SFBT an even more effective form of therapy.
