Session #: 718-420
Presenter(s): Susan Johnson
Session Length: 2 hr. 00 min. Event: 2008 Networker Annual Symposium Date: March 13-16, 2008
Couples therapy is notoriously difficult. But what if there were a systematized, step-by-step approach that not only produced powerful therapeutic moments in your office, but also yielded empirically validated results? This two-part workshop offers an introduction to Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, a proven approach founded in the principles of attachment theory. You'll learn how to interrupt a couple's negative cycles, help them move from withdrawal to reengagement, and then incorporate the changes they've experienced in therapy into their daily lives to stay deeply connected with each other. You'll gain skills in staying with the couple's moment-to-moment emotional experience and facilitating the bonding events that can lead to the transformation of a relationship. Discover why effective couples work needn't seem like such a mysterious therapeutic art. (This session will continue with Workshop 520.)
