Every therapist relies on clinical intuition, at least to some degree, but what is intuition exactly, and how do we use it effectively, intelligently, and appropriately in therapy? There are times when simply focusing on the objective "facts" of the case doesn't help us truly understand what's going on. Often, we have a feeling or thought that something is happening in a session, or that the client is conveying something, completely at odds with the manifest content of the session. At these times, experienced therapists rely on their ability to tune into their clinical intuition. In this didactic and experiential workshop, we'll explore ways of becoming more attuned to our intuition, developing it, and making it a more therapeutically useful instrument. You'll also learn how to distinguish the times when following intuitive hunches with clients is helpful from those when it can be counterproductive.
