In spite of the best efforts of the marriage preservation movement, more than 50 percent of married couples will divorce, even those who sought marriage counseling. But divorce doesn't necessarily signal a shameful failure and, if handled well, may be a viable, healthy, even life-enhancing option for many couples. In this workshop, the presenter will describe a model, based on Buddhist precepts, an understanding of the stages of bereavement and transcendence, and a method for discovering our "inner grown-up" that can make the divorce process a more positive and amicable experience. We'll discuss why divorce is often the best choice for a couple, how to help couples navigate difficult emotional states, like anger, disappointment, and grief, and what six concrete steps or "secrets" are that couples can use to peacefully make the transition into a new kind of relationship with each other.
