Clients often consult a therapist because they're unable to make the necessary decisions about hard life issues. They can't decide whether to leave a marriage or stay, have a risky operation or not, end a pregnancy or carry it to term, and get a job or go back to school. In this workshop, we'll discuss the stages and complexities of the decision-making process, how to evaluate a client's readiness to make a decision, and special considerations affecting multiproblem clients and families. You'll learn specific techniques for working with confused, vague, or overwhelmed clients that will advance their readiness to make decisions, strengthen their confidence, help them manage their anxiety, and encourage them to stick to decisions once they're made. The workshop will include videos, role-play demonstrations, and experiential exercises.
