In today's speeded-up, media-saturated world, many parents with out-of-control children and teenagers come to therapy wanting everything fixed yesterday. Few will tolerate six months of old-fashioned talk therapy. They expect more entertainment, more speed, more action. This workshop will introduce you to an effective, six-week-long, family coaching and therapy package that combines three single-family sessions with six multifamily, parent-child training sessions, and a "buddy system" of mutual support for parents. From specific case examples and video clips, you'll learn how to engage parents rapidly, use movies and experiential activities to make your points, and make sessions both entertaining and problem-solving for everyone. You'll also learn structural and strategic techniques that work quickly, and how to present your work in the language of coaching to engage those unimpressed by standard therapy approaches.
